-This route is actually filled with interesting stories from the past-

-The Necropolis of the Radimlja tombstones is one of the most valuable and well-known monuments of the medieval period in BiH (14th and 15th centuries). Since 2016., it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Stećak is the name for a stone tombstone from the Middle Ages in the wider area of Bosnia and Herzegovina. . There are 135 tombstones in the necropolis, of which 63 are decorated. The trademark or recognition of this necropolis is a male figure with a raised hand and a relatively large fist and fingers, which seems to tell the traveler that in this hard and rugged Herzegovinian region he will come across hospitable and friendly people.

“Sara Kashikov Bridge 1899” is carved in the center of the bridge. A true story or just a legend says that the whole town was buzzing about Sara’s beauty and many were in love with her. But Sarah’s heart went to the other side of the Bregava River. She fell in love with her neighbor Salko Buzaljko, who lived on the other, left side of the coast. Because they were of different faiths, the love between the two young people at that time was unacceptable, so the lovers often saw each other secretly. So Salko would cross the Bregava without caring when the water was shallow or deep, and when it was calm and restless, until one night a swollen river carried him away. Sara built a bridge in memory of her love, and built the hotel “Evropa” on the shore.

The necropolis of the Boljuni tombstones is located in Boljuni, 12 kilometers southwest of Stolac. Since 2016., it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It has a total of 273 stećak tombstones, and is the third largest, and the number of decorated tombstones in the first place in B&H. A total of 105 tombstone was decorated. Most of the tombstones were built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Special attention in the necropolis is drawn by the depiction of a woman with a child in her arms, which probably symbolizes the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus. Among the richest decorated is the stećak with a large cross under which Duke Vlatko Vuković from the Kosača family is buried.
